Hatice Hashemi, MSW, RSW
Meet the Founder
Toronto Psychotherapy Services was founded by Hatice Hashemi, a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Psychotherapist who was raised in Toronto. Hatice holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) and a Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from York University. Hatice has over a decade of experience in the mental health field, having worked across various settings such as community organizations, government services, community health centres and private practice.
As the child of immigrants, Hatice has firsthand insight into the experience of growing up between cultures, navigating multiple identities while seeking a sense of belonging. Although Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world, she struggled to find mental health support that reflected her lived experience. It was not just about having someone to talk to, it was about being seen and understood in a way that honoured all parts of who she was. That gap became the foundation of her professional mission: to build the kind of therapeutic space she once needed herself. Toronto Psychotherapy Services was created as a place where healing is inclusive, culturally responsive and deeply human.
Hatice is trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Practices, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Trauma-Informed Care. She applies these approaches based on each client’s needs, creating a safe and supportive environment to explore emotions, understand experiences and work toward meaningful progress.
Hatice works with youth, adults, families, and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and identity-related challenges. Her practice is grounded in cultural responsiveness and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience.
As an advocate for inclusive and accessible mental health care, Hatice founded Toronto Psychotherapy Services to offer exactly that—a place where people from all walks of life feel welcomed, respected and empowered to explore their experiences with compassion and clarity.
